Public hospital claim referral

If a worker presents to a public hospital with a work-related injury, the hospital will automatically send a copy of their work capacity certificate to WorkCover Queensland (unless their employer is self-insured).

WorkCover will contact the worker using the details supplied on the work capacity certificate to determine if they would like to proceed with a workers’ compensation claim.

If a worker wants to make a claim, WorkCover will begin the claim determination process. WorkCover determine claims as quickly as possible and will contact both the worker and employer within two business days of the claim being made. If their claim is accepted, WorkCover may provide compensation for lost wages and medical expenses due to their injury.

Workers are not obligated to make a claim. If they choose to not proceed with a claim then any expenses they incur in relation to their injury will not be covered by WorkCover.

WorkCover will not proceed with a claim unless we receive confirmation from the worker.
