David Miles previously worked in civil construction and mining and was involved in many of the positive, as well as negative aspects of those industries. During that time there were a number of workplace injuries and deaths across some of the organisations he has worked under and he has suffered workplace injuries himself.
David’s intention is to use his own experiences, including those where he may not have been as diligent as he could have been himself, to encourage others to adopt different approaches to workplace safety and incident avoidance in ways that benefit all parties in the workplace. As a result of this he is now involved in working on developing and proposing radically different safe systems of work that attempt to avoid the social and economic costs of workplace injuries and fatalities, while being the most attractive option to those working under them.
David is studying law and aims to be involved in law reform when he qualifies. He is involved with a number of organisations that provide services, or work towards better outcomes for the public in general and vulnerable groups in the community in particular.
